About the Foundation

In April of 2010, at age 11, Shannon Skye Tavarez was diagnosed with AML Leukemia.
Her doctors said that she needed a bone marrow transplant to survive.Finding a perfect bone marrow match would prove difficult due to the lack of minorities registered on the national marrow donor registry.Appearing on the news, on social networks, and in newspapers nationwide, Shannon was able to empower and motivate over 15,000 people to register as potential donors in her name. Her cause gained momentum and our hope was to find a match for Shannon and other patients in need of transplants.

Unfortunately, a bone marrow match was never found, and now, after her passing on November 1, 2010, Shannon’s S.H.A.R.E. Foundation continues the commitment of carrying her burning torch and keeping Shannon’s legacy alive.

Our Mission

Shannon’s S.H.A.R.E. is dedicated to the education and recruitment of potential bone marrow donors through various programs and services, especially in communities where the need is most prevalent.  We are committed to providing support, hope and aid to patients and their families, with a focus on those in need of bone marrow transplants.
Our Vision

Shannon’s S.H.A.R.E. will continue to equip individuals with the tools to become potential life savers through recruitment and education. Knowledge breeds power! – as we share Shannon’s story of courage, perseverance and compassion, our hope is that we will encourage individuals to make a difference in the lives of those awaiting life saving transplants.
The Shannon’s S.H.A.R.E. Foundation wishes to specially thank the following supporters: Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Wendy Williams, The Lion King, and everyone who has donated their time, effort, bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, sweat and tears to fight with us against this terrible disease.  Together, we make the difference.
